When to go? When is the best month to travel to East Africa?
Don’t worry if your travel dates are set! Africa offers amazing safaris year-round. While seasons do influence your experience, the weather can be surprising. You might encounter sunshine during the rainy season or rain during the dry season.
Dry seasons are ideal for spotting wildlife (June-October, Dec-Mar). Roads are easier to navigate, temperatures are pleasant, and animals gather around the limited water sources. However, this prime time comes with a trade-off: expect higher crowds and potentially full accommodations.
For a more private experience, plan ahead! Especially between June and October, booking smaller safari camps well in advance is key.
East Africa
Planning your African safari around the seasons can save you money or boost your wildlife viewing!
Rainy seasons (April-May and October-November): Enjoy lower travel costs but expect some rain showers and potentially less-than-ideal road conditions.
Dry seasons (June-September & most of January-March): Perfect for spotting animals! Clear skies and dry landscapes make wildlife easier to see around limited water sources. This peak season comes with higher prices and larger crowds, so book early, especially in July and August (prime time in East Africa). December can also get busy with local travelers, leading to higher prices and limited availability.
Masai Mara and Serengeti: Keep in mind the wildebeest migration! Depending on the time of year, these iconic animals might influence the best areas to visit and impact your itinerary, choices, and budget.
